Wafa Sultan has been forced into hiding, after her appearance on Al Jazeera prompted a death fatwa from a scholar of the Religion of Peace™: Report: Dr. Wafa Sultan in Hiding.

(IsraelNN.com) Dr. Wafa Sultan has been forced to go into hiding with her family following a fatwa (religious edict) from an Islamic scholar, according to Omedia. Sultan faces the fatwa following a recent debate on Al-Jazeera in which she challenged Egyptian Islamist Talat Rheim over Dutch cartoons of Mohammed, who Muslims revere as a prophet. Sultan argued that Denmark had the right to print the cartoons.

Sultan joins a growing list of public critics of radical Islam facing death threats. Her supporters have asked the American public to join them in writing to the embassy of Qatar, the country which sponsors Al-Jazeera, as well as to United States President George Bush and Secretary of State ...   more »

View Article  Obama: Still Not Ready for Prime Time
Power Line

For a guy with a reputation for being smooth, Barack Obama stumbled badly when he was pressed, only mildly, by a reporter in a campaign appearance in Pennsylvania yesterday:

It is striking how naive Obama sounds when he talks about foreign policy. He proposes keeping a "strike force" either in Iraq or somewhere nearby--presumably closer than Okinawa--to "deal with potential problems that might take place in the region." But that isn't a policy, it's a fantasy.

Suppose we pull our troops out of Iraq, and al Qaeda starts taking over, say, Mosul, by the simple expedient of chopping the heads off those who oppose them. How would Obama's "strike force" "deal with" that problem? By bombing Mosul? The surge has achieved success over the last few months by doing the exact opposite of what Obama suggests. Our troops have been embedded within local communities, working hand in hand ...   more »

View Article  Post-modernism or wishful thinking?
Power Line

Yesterday, I pointed out how the Washington Post, in a display of post-modern thinking, had discerned a lack of progress in Iraq from the government’s decision to attack rogue Shiite militias. In the old days, the existence or absence of progress would be gauged by the success of the new military campaign, not the decision to launch it.

Not to be outdone, the New York Times has jumped in with its own post-modern approach to evaluating the government's campaign. It concludes that Moktada al-Sadr’s call to his followers to stop fighting in Basra represents “a serious blow for Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki.” A less sophisticated observer might have thought that a rogue leader’s call for a halt in fighting is more plausibly viewed as a blow to the rogue leader.

The Times compounded its post-modernism by declining to send a reporter to Basra. Instead, the paper is ...   more »

View Article  CBS 2 Chicago: 2007 Video of Obama and Wright Signing Books Together
NewsBusters.org - Exposing Liberal Media Bias

**Video below the fold**

On Feb 8, 2007 Channel 2 News Chicago had a little puff piece on Senator Barack Obama discussing his soon to be launched presidential campaign. It happened to air just before Barack's "60 Minutes" TV interview and it focused on Barack's attendance at the Trinity United Church of Christ. The interesting thing about this video is that Barack is seen sitting side by side with Rev. Wright as they sign copies of Obama's book "The Audacity of Hope." This chumminess seems to make the lie to the claim that Barack was in any way upset at his "spiritual mentor," Rev. Wright.

It is curious why the CBS 2 video showing a beaming Barack and Wright has not been more widely played by the media, but it does prove that Barack only recently, in the middle of scrutiny and only in ...   more »

View Article  Rendell: I'm Too Truthful To Be Veep Candidate
NewsBusters.org - Exposing Liberal Media Bias

Ed Rendell is too truthful to be a good vice-presidential candidate. Just ask him. The Pennsylvania governor and Hillary supporter was a guest on this afternoon's Hardball. Wrapping up the interview, host Chris Matthews broached his availability as Veep.
CHRIS MATTHEWS: Do you think the Democrats have a shot at carrying Florida on the best of conditions this year?

ED RENDELL: Oh, absolutely, absolutely. Particularly when the issues about Social Security are fashioned. I think this is going to be the best chance we've had to carry Florida since 2000.

MATTHEWS: I think Hillary has a better chance than Barack in Florida.

RENDELL: No question.

MATTHEWS: But I think Barack has a better chance if you're his running mate. Would you be available, Governor, to be a running-mate with Barack Obama--

RENDELL: No --

MATTHEWS: or Hillary Clinton?

RENDELL: I said I'm going to ...   more »

NewsBusters.org - Exposing Liberal Media Bias

You may not be aware of it but Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia, is a virtual war zone, one of which most conservatives are blissfully unaware. Over at the New Republic, Eve Fairbanks explores this in the presidential campaign where supporters and critics of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton battle daily over their entries:

Back when we got basic information from encyclopedias instead of Wikipedia, politicians were at the mercy of the encyclopedia-writers' particular biases. Take the 1911 edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica. Apparently controlled by smug British nationalists, it described the important Irish leader Charles Stewart Parnell as "not over-scrupulous," "repellent," "powerful for evil," and, owing to the "mental affliction of his ancestors," probably possessing a "mental equilibrium [that] was not always stable."

Wikipedia was supposed to fix this problem. Anyone can add, delete, or massage language in its online articles, and--boom!--refresh the page ...   more »

View Article  CBS Follows NYT, Warns More Going on Food Stamps Than Since '60s
NewsBusters.org - Exposing Liberal Media Bias

Monday's New York Times hyped a dire congressional study, and CBS jumped hours later with a matching story full of anecdotes and relying on the expertise of a left-wing activist -- naturally, unlabeled. “The economic slowdown has left a lot of Americans struggling to pay their bills,” CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric asserted, highlighting how “a congressional report projects a record 28 million will receive food stamps in the coming year.”

Leading into a soundbite from a representative of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, reporter Bill Whitaker ominously intoned: “With jobs declining and prices for basics -- food, fuel, medicine -- on the rise, more Americans are expected to turn to food stamps in the next year than at any time since the program began in the 1960s.”

Whitaker moved on to more emotion, how one woman “is still stretching ...   more »
