CNN says earlier reports that the burned Glasgow terrorist died of his injuries are incorrect; he’s alive but in critical condition.

LONDON, England (CNN) — The United Kingdom raised its terrorism threat level to critical, the highest level possible, Saturday after a vehicle plowed into the terminal building at Scotland’s busiest airport and burst into flames. Authorities at the highest levels are assuming the fiery incident in Glasgow is directly linked to the discovery Friday of two explosives-laden cars in London.

One of two men who drove the car into the terminal’s main entrance was in critical condition at a hospital. It was erroneously reported earlier that he had died.

Police and witnesses in Glasgow described an SUV-style vehicle in flames being driven at full speed toward the building. Witness Jackie Kennedy told the BBC that a man got out of the car, went to the ...   more »

View Article  Intelligence Warnings About Glasgow Attack?
Little Green Footballs

The Blotter says US officials had warnings of an attack in Glasgow:

U.S. law enforcement officials received intelligence reports two weeks ago warning of a possible terror attack in Glasgow against “airport infrastructure or aircraft,” a senior US law enforcement officials tells the Blotter on ABCNews.com.

The intelligence reports also warned that airports and aircraft in the Czech Republic could be the targets of  al Qaeda-connected terrorists.

The warnings were kept secret for operational reasons, according to officials.  In public, the White House and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff have continued to maintain they know of no specific or credible threats involving the United States, even though the intelligence reports specify US aircraft as possible targets.

Oh, and a martial arts demonstration. Hmm. That might be just a bit awkward, after the past couple of days.

An Israeli airstrike took out another carful of Palestinian terrorists in Gaza, including one affiliated with “moderate” Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas.

GAZA (Reuters) - Israel killed six Palestinians in a series of air strikes in Gaza on Saturday, including three senior Islamic Jihad militants and a rocket manufacturer for a wing of Western-backed President Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah group.

And you know what that means. That’s right. They’re gathering and inspecting again. This time with Hamas “executive forces standing guard.”

View Article  The race-based school assignment cases -- the MSM coverage
Power Line

I haven't paid much attention to MSM coverage of the Supreme Court's decision this week striking down two race-based school assignment systems. My information has come from the opinions of the Justices and from a few law blogs. However, the MSM blurbs I've seen seemed more designed to alarm than to inform.

So too with This story in the Washington Post. For one thing, it states that "the court's four-member conservative wing said the use of race in school assignments always violated the Constitution's guarantee of equal protection." This is wrong. First, Chief Justice Roberts' pluarality opinion does not question prior rulings that, if a school system has discriminated in the past, race-based assignments can be used to vindicate the state's compelling interest in remedying the effects of that discrimination. Second, as I have argued, the plurality doesn't appear to reach the question of whether racial classifications can ...   more »
