View Article  Arkin Forgery Easier To Believe
Riehl World View

Who is William Arkin? From his blog at the Washington Post.

I’m all for everyone expressing their opinion, even those who wear the uniform of the United States Army. But I also hope that military commanders took the soldiers aside after the story and explained to them why it wasn’t for them to disapprove of the American people…

These soldiers should be grateful that the American public, which by all polls overwhelmingly disapproves of the Iraq war and the President’s handling of it, do still offer their support to them, and their respect.

Through every Abu Ghraib and Haditha [”Every”? — ed.], through every rape and murder, the American public has indulged those in uniform, accepting that the incidents were the product of bad apples or even of some administration or command order.

No wonder someone went to the trouble to produce this alleged forgery...   more »

Riehl World View

Many on the Right have always been suspect of the MSM media when it came to reporting on the Iraq War. While the first official shot may have been CNN showing video of enemy snipers at work, it seems that open hostilities have been declared now that President Bush has begun the infamous surge.

Within the past two days, the New York Times violated a standard ethical constraint when it broadcast video of an American Marine being shot, also reporting his death without officially contacting his family. They are reported to have suffered greatly in the process of viewing it. If there's any justice, they will sue the Times for the little bit that it's still worth.

A CBS journalist / activist has gone the extra mile in attempting to draw attention to a gruesome al-Qaeda video she incorporated into a news report without ...   more »

Caroline Glick writes about the bizarre mass delusion that refuses to die: Our World: Welcome to Palestine. (Hat tip: LGF readers.)

In the world of international diplomacy few issues receive more wall-to-wall support than the notion that it is essential to establish a Palestinian state. Leaders worldwide are so busy speaking of how essential it is for a State of Palestine to be founded that none of them seems to have noticed that it already exists.

This state was officially founded in the summer of 2005, when Israel removed its military forces and civilian population from the Gaza Strip and so established the first wholly independent Palestinian state in history. Israel’s destruction of four Israeli communities in Northern Samaria and curtailment of its military operations in the area set the conditions for statehood in that area as well.

And so it is that as statesmen and ...   more »

Little Green Footballs

Today’s ugly leftist anti-military rant is published by the Washington Post. And “anti-military” is no exaggeration in this case; as William Arkin spells out quite clearly, he believes that the raping, murdering, torturing US troops are lucky they aren’t being spat upon: The Troops Also Need to Support the American People. (Hat tip: LGF readers.)

This is in the Post’s “blog” section, which must be why the writing is so sloppy. Arkin skipped all those layers of journalistic oversight.

These soldiers should be grateful that the American public, which by all polls overwhelmingly disapproves of the Iraq war and the President’s handling of it, do still offer their support to them, and their respect.

At the UK radical Islamic bulletin board Ummah.com, the kids take a break from celebrating terror attacks and passing around links to beheading videos, to promote something that’s not really an “anti-war” event: War on Terror Week.

One of the Islamist/left-wing celebrities appearing at this event, Moazzam Begg, is also a previous owner of the Islamic bookstore cordoned off today by British police investigating the beheading terror plot.

UPDATE at 1/31/07 2:53:32 pm:

Here’s the video for this event, featuring dramatized scenes of Gitmo Bay brutality subtly interspersed with President Bush’s statements on the war: YouTube - UCL Islamic Society’s War on Terror Week.

Power Line

...is that a reporter might say what he actually thinks before an editor catches up with him and makes him stop. A case in point: William Arkin writes on "national and homeland security" for the Washington Post. Yesterday morning, in his blog titled Early Warning on the Post's website, Arkin wrote a post that has to be read to be believed. Titled "The Troops Also Need to Support the American People," the post comments on an NBC program in which soldiers expressed dismay at the lack of support for their mission manifested by some people back home. Arkin appears to take the position that the U.S. military is not worthy of the nation that it protects. Some highlights:

These soldiers should be grateful that the American public, which by all polls overwhelmingly disapproves of the Iraq war and the President's handling of it, do still offer their support ...   more »
