Nader Feeds from the Bottom

Ralph Nader is trying to position himself as the leader of the Nutroots, going way beyond Howard and Hillary with his new screed at the “progressive” web site Counterpunch: Ralph Nader: Torturer-in-Chief. (Hat tip: Steven Den Beste.)
The messianic, authoritarian George W. Bush and the minds of his cohorts have further collapsed the rule of law with his bulldozing through a divided Congress more dictatorial powers in his increasingly self-defined, self-serving and failing “war on terror.”
And that’s just the first paragraph.

Cycle of Violence: Visible Glass

Today’s ride: not a biggie, just 35.09 miles. I took a week off from riding (which I do every couple of months), and this was the maiden voyage, so to speak. If you will. As it were. So it was a lightweight day with no climbing, a few harder intervals but nothing that went into the anaerobic zone. Bike path saboteurs had broken several large glass bottles in a couple of spots, but as usual I rolled right through them (crunch!) without getting a flat tire. (You only get flats when you don’t see the glass.)

The Los Angeles City Council is going to name an intersection in South Los Angeles after the imam of a Saudi-funded mosque: Intersection To Be Named After Islamic Minister. (Hat tip: Ciaospirit.)
What has Imam Abdul Karim Hasan done to deserve this honor? The article doesn’t mention one positive achievement, except the vague assertion that he has been “working on behalf of humanity as a member of the Muslim community.”
(CBS) LOS ANGELES - A South Los Angeles intersection will be named for a prominent local Islamic minister under a plan approved Wednesday by the City Council.
The intersection of 41st Street and Central Avenue will be designated as Imam Abdul Karim Hasan Square for the Muslim clergyman who has worked at the Bilal Islamic Center for 35 years.
“Imam Abdul Karim Hasan is a distinguished clergy leader who has also provided leadership to the ... more »

CNN Whitewashes Radical Islam (Yes, Again)

Representative Peter King, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, recently wrote in a letter to constituents that 85% of the mosques in America are controlled by extremists.
This, of course, has led to an eruption of seething and whining from the Council on American Islamic Relations, and CNN has sprung to the defense of Muslims with a piece of whitewashing that has to be seen to be believed, pooh-poohing the idea that mosques are controlled by radicals and painting King as an “Islamophobic” kook.
Note the woman who says she still doesn’t believe Muslims carried out the 9/11 attacks. CNN says they could only find one woman who thought this way. Uh huh. I’m sure they looked really hard.
Also note that CNN, once again, does not provide a single word of context about the Council on American Islamic Relations and their many ties to extremists ... more »

The Sunday Times has gotten their hands on a “martyrdom video” made in Afghanistan in January 2000 by Mohammed Atta. (Hat tip: Bill Amos.)
LONDON - A previously unseen video made by Mohammed Atta, ringleader of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the United States, has been obtained by a Britain’s The Sunday Times, the newspaper reported Saturday.
In editions available late Saturday, the paper said it had been handed the so-called martyrdom video, but did not reveal the source of the tape.
It reported that Atta was filmed reading a document marked in Arabic as a will as he sat beside fellow hijacker Ziad Jarrah — who seized control of United Airlines flight 93, which crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pa.
The newspaper said that a timecode stamp on the videotape indicated it had been recorded on January 18, 2000 and the recording was ... more »

Meet Mark Kennedy

The Minneapolis Star Tribune has a pretty good profile of Mark Kennedy, who, as everyone knows, is running for a key Senate seat in Minnesota. In order to make the report more personal and less biased, the Strib did not assign one of its hard-left political reporters to the story; instead, the profile was written by sports reporter Jay Weiner. And it's not bad; it emphasizes Kennedy's "dorky" but driven approach, which has led him to one success after another in both private and public life.
Mark's chances in the race aren't bad, either. The two most recent polls, out within the last few days, have him down 8 and 9 points, respectively. Mark has always been a strong finisher, and his television and radio ads critiquing his opponent's highly-vulnerable record have just begun to run. The race is almost sure to tighten and likely will be a ... more »

The Case Against Kofi Annan

Power Line
From tomorrow's London Sunday Times Magazine, the case against Kofi Annan:
Srebrenica is rarely mentioned nowadays in Annans offices on the 38th floor of the UN secretariat building in New York. He steps down in December after a decade as secretary-general. His retirement will be marked by plaudits. But behind the honorifics and the accolades lies a darker story: of incompetence, mismanagement and worse. Annan was the head of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) between March 1993 and December 1996. The Srebrenica massacre of up to 8,000 men and boys and the slaughter of 800,000 people in Rwanda happened on his watch. In Bosnia and Rwanda, UN officials directed peacekeepers to stand back from the killing, their concern apparently to guard the UNs status as a neutral observer. This was a shock to those who believed the UN was there to help them.

This one is pretty funny, sports fans. Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) went on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” Saturday to discuss his recent statement regarding global warming and the press. Along the way, he complimented Fox News for being “really the exception” to all the hype by the media concerning this issue. He also bashed CNN for making “8 different [false] accusations or statements about” him. For those that are interested, the video is here, and a rough transcript follows.

BBC Calls It The 'So-Called War on Terror'

NewsBusters.org - Exposing Liberal Media Bias
Who says the BBC even tries anymore to be a straight news source that has not taken a side in the ideological debate?
Here is how their latest article on Pakistani President Musharraf starts:
West 'will fail' without Pakistan
'We helped the West' Pakistan's president has warned the West would be "brought to its knees" without his country's co-operation in the so-called war on terror.
That was pretty smooth, BBC! One might almost imagine that it was Musharraf that said the "so-called war on terror".
But, look closer. No quote marks around those words. That means it is the BBC, not Musharraf, that is calling the Global War on Terror a so-called war!

Debating the Lobby...sorta

Ah, a "debate." On the "Israel Lobby." Speaking of much waving of hands and no light shed...in this corner, the scholar who started it all (Mearsheimer), a man who thinks Israel was a mistake (Judt), a serial prevaricating affirmative-action hire (Khalidi), vs. two Clintonistas (Indyk and Ross) and Shlomo Ben-Ami who, if he's the "pro" Israel side, you got balance issues (read his book to see what I mean). I wonder if they even managed to define what anyone meant by a "lobby." The New York Sun has the story: 'Israel Lobby' Caused War in Iraq, September 11 Attacks, Professor Says
A tenured professor at the University of Chicago last night blamed the "Israel Lobby" in America for both the Iraq war and the attacks of September 11, 2001.
Speaking to a crowd of hundreds at the Cooper Union, he was met mostly with support from two other professors, ... more »
