NewsBusters.org - Exposing Liberal Media Bias

Do you remember the scene in The Naked Gun where Leslie Nielsen, as police detective Frank Drebin, pretends to be a major league baseball umpire in order to be able to search the players to see who might be the assassin?

The very first pitch is dead over the heart of the plate, but Frank hesitates before finally, timidly, calling 'strike.'  The crowd roars in approval.  Frank gets a taste for the positive feedback, and by the third strike is bellowing out his calls, making flamboyant hand gestures, even doing a moonwalk.

A similar phenomenon might be occuring with Keith Olbermann.  As noted here, in a closing 'Special Comment' on last night's show, he accused the Bush administration of representing "a new type of fascism."  Daily Kos and Democratic Underground exploded in paroxysms of joy, and deluged the show with thousands of approving ...   more »

View Article  Tim Blair On The ICRC Ambulance Story
Riehl World View

Tim Blair hones in on what I always felt was the weakest link in the Red Cross Ambulace story. As I've said, it is hard to draw absolute conclusions from images taken a thousand miles away. But the reporting was either terribly done, or that is the real place to begin debunking the ambulance story. I don't think anyone has yet accounted for this fellow. Unless they are talking about an entirely different incident, not one item mentions a driver losing an arm in the attack.

But by consolidating the various conflicting reports, Tim raises specific questions that can be asked to try and understand what, if anything, actually took place the night two Red Cross ambulances were allegedly targeted by Israel.

We’ve got a representative of the theocratic tyranny in Iran doing a propaganda tour of the US during the 9/11 anniversary, and now the Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations is giving an award for “human relations” to another raving radical Islamic nutjob: A Hezbollah apologist wins an award for tolerance. (Hat tip: SoCalJustice.)

In October 2000, Maher Hathout attended a rally in Lafayette Park across from the White House. His speech was captured on video for posterity by the Investigative Project on Terrorism. He told the assembled crowd that he was not surprised by what he called the “atrocities committed by the apartheid brutal state of Israel.” After all, he reasoned, “butchers do what butchers do, and ... what is expected from a racist apartheid [state] is what is happening now.”

Fast forward six years. The Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations announced ...   more »

One might think that with an American media so attuned to listening to what our friends, allies and even enemies in the International community have to say, we'd see more than a handful of Google News references to a recent exchange between a radio show caller and the Australian Prime Minister John Howard.

"There is a section, a small section of the Islamic population, and I say a small section, which is very resistant to integration."

"Fully integrating means accepting Australian values, it means learning as rapidly as you can the English language if you don't already speak it," ...

"And it means understanding that in certain areas, such as the equality of men and women ... people who come from societies where women are treated in an inferior fashion have got to learn very quickly that that is not the case in Australia."

NewsBusters.org - Exposing Liberal Media Bias

On Thursday night, CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight, anchored by Kitty Pilgrim, featured a full story on the MRC's study by Tim Graham released on Monday, “Election In the Streets: How the Broadcast Networks Promote Illegal Immigration.” Pilgrim announced that “this nation's major newscasts are being accused of being blatantly sympathetic to illegal aliens.” Reporter Casey Wian explained how “a study released this week by the conservative Media Research Center...claims ABC, CBS, and NBC News have been promoting illegal immigration." After a soundbite from Graham, Wian relayed how “the study examined network news coverage of the issue from March 24th through May 31st. Among the findings, illegal alien amnesty advocates appeared in about twice as many soundbites as supporters of border security.” In addition, “networks routinely ignored polls showing the vast majority of Americans favor stronger border security. And the study concluded: 'The networks ...   more »

View Article  Miss England: Moderate Muslims Become Terrorists to Prove Themselves
Little Green Footballs

Miss England 2006, in a daring departure from the usual beauty queen peppy positivity, is preaching twisted victimology to Britain’s Muslims: Stereotyping is leading to terror, says first Muslim Miss England. (Hat tip: LGF readers.)

She said: “The attitude towards Muslims has got worse over the year. Also the Muslims’ attitude to British people has got worse.

Even moderate Muslims are turning to terrorism to prove themselves. They think they might as well support it because they are stereotyped anyway. It will take a long time for communities to start mixing in more.

“People may feel I am just a sugar coating on the situation. I am a symbol to show it’s not really that bad.”

But at the same time, she said, “there is this hostility” which comes “mainly from the Government”.

Wow.

View Article  Brian Williams Defends Bush Interview on Personal Blog
NewsBusters.org - Exposing Liberal Media Bias

Stung by criticism that he appeared unprofessional in his recent interview with President Bush, NBC's Brian Williams took the unusual step of trying to defend himself in his personal blog. This particular edition of The Daily Nightly aka The Daily Dully stands in sharp contrast to the usual banal Happy Face platitudes expressed on his blog. Here is Brian Williams defending his interview with President Bush:

We'll run another new (to our audience) portion of our conversation with the President on tonight's broadcast. I returned from New Orleans to find thousands of emails (I often ask that they be printed out so that I can take them home, travel with them and go through them quickly, while sticking to my vow to read them all) neatly divided into two main categories: our Katrina coverage (overwhelmingly positive) and our interview with President Bush.

President Bush delivered the first in a series of speeches advancing his war policies before an American Legion audience in Salt Lake City. The transcript is here. The subject of today's speech was, in Bush's words, "a critical aspect of this war: the struggle between freedom and terror in the Middle East, including the battle in Iraq, which is the central front in our fight against terrorism."

The President's themes were ones he has sounded many times before: the failure of our decades-old, pre-September 11 policy of pursuing "stability" in the Middle East; the forward strategy of attacking terrorists where they live; and the long-run importance of bringing freedom to Islamic countries. The President talked about Iran:

This summer's crisis in Lebanon has made it clearer than ever that the world now faces a grave threat from the radical regime in Iran. The Iranian regime arms, funds, ...   more »

Power Line

You may be unaware that the Miss World pageant is coming up next month. The finale will be in Poland at the end of September; the Miss World web site is taking shape.

Normally, this would be a source of unalloyed pleasure. This year, though, politics has intruded. Last year's Miss England, Hammasa Kohistan, the first Muslim to be so honored, has expressed herself on the subject of terrorism:

"The attitude towards Muslims has got worse over the year. Also the Muslims' attitude to British people has got worse.

"Even moderate Muslims are turning to terrorism to prove themselves. They think they might as well support it because they are stereotyped anyway.

[A]t the same time, she said, "there is this hostility" which comes "mainly from the Government. Tony Blair addressed Muslims in particular, telling them that they need to sort out the problem within. That was ...   more »

View Article  Journos Blame Israel for Faulty Mideast Coverage
NewsBusters.org - Exposing Liberal Media Bias

At a recent journalists convention in Israel, the assembled representatives of the world's elite media realized that press's coverage of the recent war in Lebanon has been flawed. And that it was Israel's fault. See NRO's Media blog for details, then read the rest of this article (h/t LGF):

In short, much of the most incendiary
media coverage of this war seems to have been either staged or
fabricated. The big question is why the western media would perpetrate
such institutionalised mendacity. Many ancillary reasons come to mind.
There is the reliance upon corrupted news and picture agencies which
employ Arab propagandists as stringers and cameramen. There is the herd
mentality of the media which decides collectively what the story is.
There is the journalists’ fear for their personal safety if they report
the truth about terrorist outfits. There is the difficulty of...   more »
